Using Muted-Video Enactments to Develop Sociolinguistic Awareness

Silent films have long been shown during language classes to ease contextual and pragmatic acquisition. Equally empowering, muted videos are commonly used help students learn culture-laden fixed expressions. They report appreciate enjoy using visual cues understand then appropriately use unfamiliar ,and especially cope with novel situations such as job interviews. This study analyses students’ voiceover responses a series of their participation in an oral communication skills course intended develop sociolinguistic awareness. The researchers wanted know the extent which benefited from video task. A mixed method design was identify most common challenges learners face when Both self-developed, online pre post-test, focus group interviews were data collection tools. participants, selected according convenience sampling method, studying at English-medium state university Turkey taking compulsory communications-oriented English course. Afterwards, participants seen developed sensitivity towards context-bound phrases. research also useful helping pinpoint for contextually phrases English.
